New essayJul 11, 2026Why I Built ShioriOne minute — a day with Shiori, your AI planner-secretary

The busywork starts to disappear.Shiori handles it all for you.

1. Input, handled
Everything you see and hear.
Meetings, activity, conversations — Shiori listens, watches and remembers, without you lifting a finger.
2. Output, handled
Everything you want to say.
Minutes, documents, email drafts — prepared in your own voice. Hitting send is always yours.
3. Automation, your call
Everything you choose to hand over — and only that.
Nothing runs on its own. Only the things you've decided to entrust start running automatically.
At work, it looks like this.

Meetings
By the time the meeting ends, the work is done.
Just leave your phone on the table. Minutes and decisions come out sorted, and Shiori drafts what it can — “Shall I go ahead?” You just nod.
Writing
Stop typing.
Documents, emails — just talk. Shiori knows your voice and your context, so the drafts come out ready to use.
Memory
“Whatever happened with that?” — gone.
Last week's meeting. A decision from three months ago. What you promised whom. Shiori doesn't forget, so the searching time simply disappears.
Projects
Run any number of projects, without the mess.
Shiori looks after each one — down to the small jobs inside the big ones — and keeps them in order. You watch the whole board, and decide.
In daily life, it looks like this.

Journaling
The planner you never kept up — kept.
It lasts because you don't have to write. Talk, and today's page appears, with tomorrow's draft. Shiori even quietly tracks how the things you committed to are going.
Planning
By morning, your day is already laid out.
Work and life, managed in one planner. Shiori remembers your goals and folds them into each day. Things actually move — and your days get room to breathe.
Reading
Scan a book in five minutes. Then talk with its author.
Flip through a favorite book and snap the pages. Shiori takes in the whole of it, ready to discuss — and your talkable bookshelf keeps growing.
Family
We argue less, my wife and I.
Plans and to-dos drift gently into each other's planners. A hard conversation can be reread alone later, a little calmer. — We still argue plenty, mind you.
A day with Shiori

Morning
Your plan is already there
You open your computer. Today's plan is already there, drawn from what you said yesterday. You adjust it by voice, and the day begins.

Noon
Set it down — it remembers
Lunch with someone who matters. You set your phone on the table. That's all. By evening, the conversation is organized and waiting in both of your planners — so next time, you start from the interesting part.

Night
Two minutes, tomorrow's ready
You talk through your day for two minutes. It becomes today's page, and tomorrow's first draft. You close the lid. That's it.
Just by using it, Shiori grows

The more days you share, the more it knows you
A day becomes a week, a week a year. The more you talk, the more Shiori understands — your projects, your people, your way of thinking. Until one day, someone knows your whole story, and it's yours alone.

Just talk — and a little app of your own is born
Just say “I wish it could…” and a little app of your own takes shape inside Shiori — exam support, a training log, even your tax filing. The more you use it, the more Shiori becomes yours. And you can share it with others, too.
How Shiori works
Part 1A mind and a body — a partner that takes the busywork off your plate.Shiori is the AI secretary that acts in your place

A mind
The latest AI of your choice becomes Shiori's mind — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok all work out of the box. When a smarter AI arrives, Shiori simply grows smarter too. You choose it, and you raise it.
A body — eyes, ears, hands, and feet
- Eyes — Sees and remembers — your activity across your computer, phone, and watch.
- Ears — Listens and sums up — from meetings to passing talk.
- Hands — Drafts in your voice. You always press send.
- Feet — Connects and shares, gently, with family and team.
Part 2A planner looks forward. A diary looks back.Shiori is the AI techo that weaves past and future into now
From past to future — reflection becomes a plan.
Shiori starts from looking back. From “How was today?” it walks with you to what comes next — and the rhythm repeats by day, week, month and year, on its own. The more you gather, the clearer your next step becomes.
Your own life, and your work too.
Reflect as a person, or project by project at work — freely. Shiori ties it all together into the single point of your now. However much you carry, the days feel lighter. Past and future, woven into now — Shiori is the bookmark for living it.
Part 3Neither your data nor a price tag will hold you.Shiori is free

First: free as in freedom. Your records can leave with you, anytime.
Private and secure — by design.
Everything is saved as plain Markdown files on your computer — not on our servers. Back up to your own GitHub. If we disappeared tomorrow, your records would still be yours.
Portable, never locked in.
Shiori doesn't fence you in. Stop using it, and every record stays in your hands. No switching walls, no lock-out. What's yours stays yours.
Second: free as in $0. Using Shiori costs nothing.

From the maker
Shiori was born in Japan on July 7th — Tanabata, the star festival, the one night a year when two distant stars are allowed to meet. I built it because I believe technology should free people, not flood them.
I use Shiori more than anyone, every day. It already changes how my days feel — and it's still young, not 100% smooth yet. If you come early, I'll walk with you personally until it clicks.
You hold the pen. Shiori holds your place.
— BABA, maker of Shiori
The closed beta starts small. Invitations go out from July 14, in signup order, and we open up little by little — everyone who joins can invite friends.
One thing, honestly: Shiori is still in beta. Some parts are unfinished, and surprises happen. We'll always be upfront about what it can and can't do — and we're looking for people who'd like to help it grow.
Joining takes nothing at all — no AI subscription needed, plans start at $1 a month.
